Ira Pisetzner's Obituary
Ira Pisetzner, 84
Longtime Staten Islander, Owned Manor Road Dental Practice for 47 years, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend
Dr. Ira Pisetzner died peacefully at Vi at Lakeside Village Care Center in Lantana, Florida on August 8, 2022.
Ira was born on November 19, 1937 to Michael and Yetta Pisetzner of Manhattan. The family moved to Castleton Corners in 1940. Ira graduated from Curtis High School and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Wagner College, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from New York University School of Dentistry. Following graduation, Ira served two years as a captain in the US Army Dental Corps at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. He then opened his private dental practice on Manor Road in Castleton Corners in 1965 and maintained the practice for 47 years.
While practicing dentistry with a skillful and gentle touch, Ira put his patients at ease by sharing jokes from his broad repertoire. He was also known to squeeze a patient into an already-packed schedule when hearing that they would be bringing along a freshly made pot of pasta fagioli.
Ira‘s beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara Pisetzner, died in early 2021. Together, they enjoyed live theater, concerts, fine restaurants, movies, extensive travel, and time spent with family and friends. Ira read crime mysteries, played backgammon with competitive glee, and did crossword puzzles. In his earlier years, he played piano, tennis, paddleball, and racquetball and volunteered by delivering meals for God’s Love We Deliver. After retirement, Ira and Barbara moved full time to Delray Beach in 2013.
Ira is survived by his three children Mindy Berkower (Howard), Howard Pisetzner (Michele), and Karen Fried (Richard); three grandchildren Andrew Pisetzner, Jason Berkower, and Jenna Berkower; brother Dr. Mel Pisetzner; brother-in-law Paul Kleinman (Debbie); sisters-in-law Regina Kleinman and Barbara Kleinman; and other dear relatives and longtime friends. In addition to his wife, Ira was predeceased by his sister-in-law Ellen Pisetzner and brother-in-law Joel Kleinman.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions in Ira’s memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, God’s Love We Deliver, or another personally meaningful charity.
