Irene Steinberg's Obituary
Irene Steinberg (nee Schorr), loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother died peacefully in Boca Raton, Florida on June 26th, less than five months shy of her 102nd birthday.
Irene is survived by her sister, Maxine Cohen of Boca Raton, Florida; five children, Steven Steinberg of Delray Beach, Florida; Barbara Hill of Eustice, Florida; Marilyn Politi of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Janet Katz of Moorestown, New Jersey; and Michael Steinberg of Pembroke Pines, Florida. Irene was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Irene graduated from Irvington High School. In 1939 she married Harry Steinberg and began raising their family. In the early 1950’s Irene and Harry moved to Miami Beach before returning to New Jersey a decade later and eventually settling in Livingston where Irene often spent hours in the stands at the local baseball and softball fields watching her husband and sons. In 1980 Irene and Harry moved back to South Florida and enjoyed the Florida lifestyle together until Harry passed away prematurely in 1985 after 46 years of marriage.
In 2000 Irene relocated to Delray Beach. An avid card player and Bingo enthusiast, Irene could often be found in a community card room with her friends, or at a local casino or Bingo parlor.
Gravesite services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 2nd at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, New Jersey. Following the service the family will greet family and friends at the home of Janet and Howard Katz in Moorestown, NJ. Donations in Irene’s memory can be sent to Trustbridge Hospice Foundation of Palm Beach County.
