Irwin A. Breinin's Obituary
Irwin A. Breinin of Delray Beach died peacefully on Feb 1, 2023 at age 77 after a courageous battle with renal failure. Born on December 10, 1945 to Harriet and David Breinin in Indianapolis, Indiana, Irwin grew up in Syracuse, New York where he formed lifelong bonds with his brother Steve, who survives him, and close friends that continued until his passing. He is also survived by his son, Michael, his grandchildren Gregory and Judith and his wife, Judi.
Irwin was a born salesman, and that is the path which he pursued. He formed Marketing Concepts in the early 1980’s, managing all the design, marketing and sales forces of several major lighting manufacturers. Irwin continued Marketing Concepts until the mid- 2000’s when he retired.
Irwin was a devoted father, grandfather and husband. He was extremely close to his only child, Michael, and they shared a unique bond that transcended father and son. Michael thought of Irwin as his best friend and his greatest source of wisdom and counsel. Irwin loved visiting Michael, Judi and Gregory in New Orleans and his annual visit was always an anticipated event in their lives filled with an overabundance of good eating, shopping and embarrassing stories about Michael.
To say Irwin loved to eat would be a gross understatement. Once, as a teenager, as a dare he ate every item on the menu of a local sub shop in Syracuse. He particularly liked Italian food and New Orleans cuisine, especially Michael’s Gumbo. Irwin always ordered dessert, and he was always thin. Good genes, he used to say.
Irwin’s passion for cars was a generational passion that he passed to Michael, and Michael passed to Gregory. One of Irwin’s life-long aspirations was to own a Ferrari, and he did. He often would talk to his Son and Grandson for hours about nothing but cars. He enjoyed watching all forms of auto racing and would often spend an entire Sunday afternoon doing just that. He loved television, movies, and was also a voracious reader, Michael wonders how he is going to finish the over 300 titles Irwin left him to read on his Kindle.
Irwin Breinin will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
