Irwin Stuart Lamm's Obituary
Our sweet father, Irwin Lamm, passed away on October 24, 2022 at the age of 87, with his loving family by his side. He was an incredibly loving, doting, and caring father, grandfather, and husband.
Born and raised on the Lower East Side of NYC, he was a proud New Yorker who loved spending time in Manhattan. He ultimately retired to Boynton Beach, FL, where he has been living for the last 20 years. He lived in many places during the course of his life, but his most favorite place that he called home was the beautiful town of Ridgefield, CT, where his daughters grew up.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Lamm and Hannah (Faggella) Lamm. Irwin is survived by two daughters: Allison Lamm of Danbury, CT; and Michele (Lamm) Chapuis/David Chapuis, of Orchard Park, NY, and his wife of 27 years, Carole Lamm. He is also survived by two granddaughters he loved very much: Hannah and Rachel Chapuis, as well as stepdaughter Susan Giniger and her family: husband Jeffrey and sons Jason and Andrew.
Irwin retired from a 30-year career as a well-respected nursing home administrator after running facilities in NYC (including Bialystoker), Providence, RI, Rochester and Stony Brook, NY. He complemented his career as a professor of long-term health care management in many of the locations in which he lived – Brown University in RI, NYC, and most recently as an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), in Boca Raton, FL. His animated personality, and his joy for sharing his knowledge, made him a very effective and well-loved professor. He greatly enjoyed working with his students, and only stopped teaching when the pandemic in 2020 forced him to retire at the age of 85.
He was a vibrant, funny storyteller who was always up for a game of backgammon or pisha paysha. He was very bright and enjoyed conversations on many topics, including one of his favorites, history, about which we had many laughs as he tirelessly tested his much less knowledgeable family on historic details. He loved his family fiercely, and his family loved him just the same. That love will never fade, and he will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 28 at 2:00pm, at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel in Boynton Beach (11115 Jog Rd on the corner of Woolbright), followed by Shiva at the home of Carole Lamm. The family would like to request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (an organization that our family supports very strongly).
