IVAN L. GOLDBERG's Obituary
Ivan L. Goldberg passed peacefully away on the morning of August 22, 2018 with his daughters, Lynda and Joan by his side. Born and raised in Tarrytown, NY, Ivan proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the Pacific Island of Saipan at the close of WWII. Following the war, Ivan graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in economics. He returned to Tarrytown, NY where he entered a third generational family business, Goldberg Wholesale Supply Corporation,serving the Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey and Connecticut. He married Barbara Raitt, his beloved wife of 66 years and had three children, Stuart, Joan and Lynda. In the late 1970s, Ivan and Bobbi relocated to the Palm Beaches where Ivan became the Administrative Director of The Center For Recovery at JFK Medical Center, establishing and developing the hospital’s first chemical dependency treatment program. During this time, Ivan was elected President of the Florida chapter of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers. He was also a member of H.R.S. District 9 Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Council; a Board Member of Wayside House; an advisory Board Member of Gratitude House; a committee member on the Palm Beach County Citizens Advisory Committee for Financially Assisted Agencies; and served on the Health Committee of H.R.S. District 9 Health and Human Services Board. In the mid-1990s, Ivan was elected by the Board of Governors as an Advanced Member of the American College of Addiction Treatment Providers and named Executive Director of Growing Together, Inc. in Lake Worth. Throughout his life, Ivan remained a powerful voice and advocate for best practices in the field of chemical addiction which was his passion. Private memorial services will be held in New York to honor Ivan’s remarkable life which was always filled with giving, learning, sharing and love.
