Janice Sher Braunstein
On Wednesday, July 21, 2021, Janice “Jan” Sher Braunstein of Boynton Beach, Florida, loving widow, cherished community member, passed away one day shy of her 73rd birthday. Jan was born in Washington, D.C. on July 22, 1948, to Anne Shankman (z”l) and Max Sher (z”l). Raised in our nation’s capital, Jan’s family eventually moved to Silver Spring, MD, where she lived along with her parents, two sisters, Donna (z”l) and Roberta Sher Dobbs.
After high school, Jan left the Washington area and headed to New York to pursue a degree in Nursing. Upon graduation, she returned to the DC area where she started her career. Always focused on looking after other’s, Jan left nursing and decided to pursue a career in the health insurance industry. She worked in the industry for many years and it was there that she met her besheret, Stewart Braunstein (predeceased). Jan and Stewart were married on October 24, 1997. Joined in marriage, they also joined forces professionally, and together they ran a successful insurance company for many years until retirement.
Jan and Stewart spent most of their years in Baltimore, MD, where they were actively engaged in their local synagogue, Beth Israel, and in other local community affairs. Jan prided herself on her work with Hadassah and the synagogue’s local sisterhood chapter, working for many years to gather recipes from the community, turning them into a cookbook which served as an annual fundraiser for the synagogue.
Seven years ago, Jan and Stewart decided to move to Florida full time, where they immediately became involved in the local community and synagogue. While living in Florida, they always maintained their countless close relationships with friends and family in Baltimore and the greater Washington area.
Jan is survived by many loving cousins, as well as Stewart’s two daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and countless, countless friends.
