Jason "Jay" Seltzer's Obituary
Jason “Jay” Seltzer
Jason Seltzer of Boca Raton, FL (formerly Oradell, NJ, Manhattan, NY, Wantagh, NY, and Brooklyn, NY) passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025 at the age of 94.
Beloved husband of Helen Seltzer, his camp sweetheart and love of his life, for 73 years. Devoted father of Pamela Reidinger and her husband Scott, the late Julie Seltzer-Firsty and her husband Wayne, and Judith Myers and her husband Steven. Cherished grandfather of Morgan, Noah (and his wife Jennifer), Joshua, Shay, and Alana, and proud great-grandfather of Chase. Loving brother of the late Adele Burston Hoffman.
Jason was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 24, 1930. He graduated from James Madison High School and went on to Brooklyn College and Brooklyn Law School (‘52), graduating with his JD in his early twenties. He proudly served his country as a JAG in the Air Force. Jay practiced law in Wantagh, NY at Colby, Miller, and Seltzer before becoming a partner at Dreyer & Traub in Manhattan. After retiring from the law, Jason enjoyed his partners and ownership of the famous ice cream and candy store, Peppermint Park, in Manhattan, NY. As his final “career pivot”, Jay worked as President of the New Jersey Generals Football Team in the
USFL.
After moving to Florida, Jason shared his keen mind, expertise, and enthusiasm with institutions and organizations that were near and dear to his heart, including Sinai Residences, Donna Klein Jewish Academy, and Company A.
Jason was the patriarch of his extended family from the Brooklyn area, as well as his children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family was of utmost importance to Jay and you could often hear him regaling stories of his beloved family members.
He lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to them. Jason was generous, had a brilliant mind, and was the ultimate problem-solver. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, doing crossword puzzles, watching sports on TV, and telling groanworthy puns that made others laugh.
May his memory forever be a blessing.
