Jay was a splendid teacher, collaborator, and, most important, friend. When my daughter and I were creating a board of directors to help guide Rancho La Puerta into a new period of growth, I instantly thought of Jay. His knowledge of the hotel industry was incredible, and he understood that a guest experience can go far beyond simply offering a great bed and pillow. He "got it" that a fitness resort and spa can change lives AND be a wonderful vacation. Whenever Jay flew to San Diego to attend one of our meetings, he would arrive a day early just to have lunch with me. To the family of Jay: I had the pleasure of knowing this man as I was the receptionist at the Renaissance Executive Suites. I recently retired and he told me he wasn’t ready to retire.
