JERRY WILLIAM FUCHS's Obituary
Jerry W. Fuchs, 79, of Boynton Beach, FL passed away on November 21, 2018. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, as one of three brothers (Harold and Arthur). While living in Brooklyn, Jerry met his wife Cecile and the two were married in 1960. Soon after, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed near and far, including in England, Biloxi, Mississippi and in Montana. Following his tour in the Armed Forces, Jerry joined IBM in 1966 and spent his entire career at the company until his retirement.
While working for IBM, Jerry and Cecile raised their two children Martin and Heidi and the family lived in Wappingers Falls, NY; Lexington, KY; and eventually settled in South Florida.
Once an avid runner, Jerry took up cycling in the 1980’s as a way to stay fit and it soon became his passion. He joined the Boca Raton Bicycling Club (BRBC) and loved to take 40 mile bike rides, which were his idea of relaxation! He was often joined on these rides by his weekend cycling partner and daughter Heidi. This dynamic father-daughter cycling duo once biked across Florida from Lake Okeechobee to Punta Gorda, logging more than 200 road miles on their trek.
Never one to shy away from the action, Jerry also was part of the dynamic team with his daughter and wife (who passed away in 2014) that created a fundraising bike ride for the BRBC which has been around for over 25 years and has grown to more than 600 riders each year. .
Sitting still was not in Jerry’s DNA. When he wasn’t admiring classic cars that he drove as part of his part-time job at the Auto Auction, he traveled the world from Alaska, to Thailand to Dubai. He especially loved cruises, and had logged more than 50 cruise trips with family and friends. In 2011, Jerry along with his brother Arthur, took their children and grandchildren on a big family cruise to celebrate his and Cecile’s 50th wedding anniversary and his brother Arthur’s 40th wedding anniversary to his wife Carol. The trip was dubbed: “90 Years of Fuchs” with t-shirts made for all the family to wear.
Jerry was the patriarch of an extremely close family, where family camping trips and cousins club get togethers were a big part of their lives. Even after the kids were grown family dinners and holiday celebrations were a regular occurrence. He was the swim coach for both Marty and Heidi when they were growing up as well as taking up completive swimming himself. Jerry was a beloved grandfather to Marty’s daughters Lexi and Kaili.
Jerry is survived by his two children Marty and Heidi, his brothers Harold and Arthur; and granddaughters, Kaili and Lexi
