Joan A. Kushner's Obituary
Joan Kushner, 95, of Century Village in Deerfield Beach, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday November 12, 2023. Born on the same day as Shirley Temple (she loved this fact), Joan was raised in Jamaica Queens, NY. At 15 she was a Gurtz cover girl, at 18 she was elected Queen of the Campus of Queens College, and at 19 she became an official Miss Subways of New York. She graduated from Queens College and went on to obtain her Master’s Degree in Spanish Education to become a teacher. She taught Spanish for many years and then spent 10 years in real estate before she retired to Boynton Beach, Florida. Her greatest love was her beloved husband of 70 years, Philip Kushner. They met on the sands of Long Beach while he was dressed in uniform as an Air Corps man. She lived bravely without him for the past 4.5 years and not a day went by that she did not think of him. Always put together with her makeup just so and her outfits perfectly matched, Joan was a woman to behold. Dancing, singing, and spending time with her family were her favorite things. She was a devoted mother of
Drew Preston Kushner (Christine), Dr. Glenn (Dr. Martha) Kushner, and her late son Bruce Kushner. She was a loving grandmother of Joshua Kushner, Matthew (Nicole) Kushner, Dr. Michelle (Dr. Ross) Feldgreber, Adam Kushner, and Noah (Stephanie) Kushner. And a wonderful great grandmother of Aria Isabel Kushner, Lily Reese Kushner, Zoey Rose Feldgreber, Sadie Pearl Kushner, and Summer Jori Feldgreber.
Donations can be made in honor of Joan to St. Jude or The American Cancer Society.
A graveside service will be held at South Florida National Cemetery on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10:30am.
