Joan Richman's Obituary
Joan Richman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on February 12 at the age of 90. She is survived by her children Scott, Barry and wife Jan, Robin Schaffer and husband Mark, and Michael, seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Howard just 6 months ago, her parents, Sydney and May, and her siblings, Herman and Sanford.
Joan was born on April 8, 1932 in Elizabeth, NJ. She met Howie at a dance when she was 17 and they were inseparable from that time onward. She was a devoted mother and a successful entrepreneur, operating J. RIchman Healthcare, a nursing agency for over 20 years before her retirement. In her leisure time, Joan expressed her creativity in producing original works of stained glass art, needlepoint and quilting. She loved word games and poring over pictures of her large, extended family.
Over her lifetime, Joan suffered many physical ailments, including breast cancer. She not only survived these challenges, but thrived in spite of them. Nothing slowed Joan down, she was always moving forward, optimistically. In that way, she was an incredible role model for her family and friends, a positive light to all.
A private service will occur on Thursday, February 16 at 12:15 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer or the Edgewater College Scholarship Fund.
