Joan Unger, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 19th, 2021. She is survived by her sons, Mark Unger and Jason Unger, grandsons, Jacob Unger and Lucas Unger, daughter-in-law, Caryn Unger, and nephew, Larry Heller. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Leon, her brother, Irwin Heller, sister-in-law, Annette Heller, and her niece, Mindy Heller.
She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY on April 11, 1933 to Jack and Sylvia Heller. After marrying, she and Leon moved to Long Island to raise a family. Being a wife and mother brought her great joy. The family then moved to Florida followed by a move to Colorado, after Leon’s passing, to be closer to her grandchildren.
She worked in a variety of jobs along the way including in the garment and fashion industry, real estate, and as a law secretary.
Joan loved Broadway and would recount stories of how she and her mother would frequently get tickets for the two of them to enjoy the shows. She loved to sing and was always a part of a chorus, either directing or participating.
