Berlatsky, Joel's Obituary
Boynton Beach, FL: Joel Berlatsky, formerly of Kingston, PA died July 10, 2025. Born in Chicago he grew up in Queens, NYC. He graduated from Carleton College (MN) before receiving an M.A.T from Brown University (RI). For two years he taught history and coached basketball and track at Lake Forrest, IL high school. He then returned to graduate school at Northwestern University (IL) earning a PH.D, specializing in the history of Great Britain and its empire.
For the next thirty-seven years he taught history at Wilkes University (Wilkes-Barre PA). For most of that time he lived in Kingston, PA before moving to Lansdale, PA. While at Wilkes he served a term as departmental chair, sat on many committees and for eighteen years was Faculty Athletic Representative. He was the author of several journal articles, contributed to three collections of articles and co edited a document for the Royal Historical Society, Camden Society Series. A member of the North American Conference of British Studies he was also a lifetime member of the American Historical Society.
Berlatsky is survived by his wife of 60 years, Theodora, two sons, Noah (Marcy Boggs) of Chicago, IL, Eric (Jennifer) of Lake Worth, FL and three grandchildren.
There will be a brief memorial service for immediate family only at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel in Boynton Beach. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
