John Goldsmith's Obituary
John Goldsmith, age 85 of North Andover, Massachusetts died March 17, 2021. John will be interned at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens in Boynton Beach, Florida. John grew up in Deal, New Jersey and graduated Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1957. While there, he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity and he made many friends. He served in the US Army and, due to bad eyesight, he was a wonderful gardener during this service. He had numerous positions but said that his best was as a Vice President at Varioline, his worst was his first job as a handbag salesman. Throughout his life he lived in many places including New Jersey and Florida. While raising his kids he lived primarily in Rumson, New Jersey where he had an active social life. He loved traveling and visited over 40 countries in addition to extensive travels in the United States, including being hijacked to Cuba. John loved fishing and had many tales to tell, entertaining, going to theatre, and telling stories. He took great pleasure in the successes of his children. His grandchildren gave him much joy and they took great pleasure from him. His caregivers expressed their love for him and how kind he was and how much of a gentleman.
John was preceded in death by Gail Goldsmith, his college sweetheart, with whom he had his children, Robert Goldsmith, (of Andover, Massachusetts), Peter Goldsmith who is married to Maura Brown (of Downers Grove, Illinois), Richard Goldsmith who is married to Mindy (of Califon, New Jersey). John was lucky enough to have a beloved older sister, Ann Miller (of Bethesda, Maryland; John had five grandchildren Katie, Matthew, Michael, Danny, and Evan and several nieces and nephews. He was lucky to find love a second time with his second wife, Arlene Goldsmith and enjoyed living in Lake Worth, Florida with her.
