I'll always remember Joni, so vivacious and engaged, the music moving her in her seat, her lips forming the lyrics, her eyes sparkling and her face smiling and open. She welcomed me into her family, although she always had trouble calling me her daughter-in-law. In truth, the title seemed too restrictive, too loaded with potential undercurrents. Instead, she would describe me as her friend, and I was always secretly proud that she would do so. She shared her stories with me, and encouraged me to share with her, and together we laughed and cried many times. I am so privileged to have known her; to call her my friend, and also my mother in law, because I couldn't have asked for more from our relationship. I cherished her, and I know she cherished me and our friendship. Rest In Peace Joni. Drive that fast car right into the light, as we celebrate your love and life.
