Joseph D Menkes' Obituary
Joseph Menkes passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday September 13, 2022. He was 89 years old. A Bronx native, Joe attended Bronx High School of Science and Lehigh University. He spent his career developing real estate in Brooklyn and retail projects on Long Island. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Joe loved playing bridge. He was a life master and in his later years, taught students in southern Florida. He also was an accomplished piano player and avid tennis player. He was married to Joan Riemer in 1956, with whom he had two sons, Eric and Adam, all of whom survive him. He was married to Barbara Auerbach in 1985, who predeceased him. “Big Joe” loved wine and cigars. He was proud of his sons and put his family ahead of himself. He was selfless and kind and he knew the difference between right and wrong. He will be sorely missed.
Graveside services will be Friday September 16 at 11:30 am at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, 11520 State Road #7, Boynton Beach, Florida. The family will sit shiva following the service at the family home.
