Judith Steinman's Obituary
Judith Steinman passed away peacefully November 15, 2022 at the age of 94. Judith was born in Manhattan to Bert and Bertha. As a child Judy also lived in Buffalo, New York. She was the oldest of 4 children, followed by her sister Barbara, her sister Linda, and her brother James. They were a close knit and supportive loving family. From a young age, Judy was independent and strong minded. She was an early advocate for women's rights and a strong feminist throughout her lifetime. As a child, she liked to play tennis and ride her bike. After high school, Judy attended NYU, however her studies were interrupted. Her independence could be seen in her early work for Lerner shops and Macy's where she was a buyer. She has always been known for her impeccable dress, jewelry and style. Judy and her future husband Harry met in New York City, after World War II. They were married in 1953 and were together for nearly 68 years. Judy and Harry moved from New York to the greater Washington, DC area in 1956. Later, Judy and Harry, along with their two young sons, Richard and Robert, moved to Miami in 1964. Judy and her family have been in South Florida ever since. Judy and Harry built a home for their young family along the waterway canals in North Miami Beach, in what is now known as Aventura. Judy cared for her family and prided herself on staying home to teach and take her boys to all sorts of activities and sports. Judy always loved to learn; she was a true lifelong learner to her very last days. After her sons were in high school, Judy went back to college and completed her Bachelor of Science degree and Masters of Science degree. She rejoined the workforce after her sons were in college, working for the State of Florida; first as a mental health and career counselor, and then as a Florida state auditor. Judy loved to learn and read a wide variety of topics. While a favorite topic of hers was politics, she especially enjoyed discussions regarding medicine, psychology, marketing, accounting, chemistry and computer science. She could find commonalities between multiple various realms of knowledge and asked probing questions, always wanting the details in order to develop a true understanding of the topic. Her many books, magazines, VHS tapes and educational CDs, filled her world and fill her home. Even though Judy has always dressed impeccably and with style, she loved to play and would join her grandchildren, climbing into the treehouse and playing video games. Judy loved to travel. She and Harry took many vacations with their children, Richard and Robert; and later in retirement on their own, Judy and Harry, traveled throughout the United States, Europe, Russia and Asia. She had and has, a large loving family. We will miss her very very much. She had a long, interesting life.
Judy was a longtime resident of North Miami Beach and Delray Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harry Steinman. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law's; Dr. Richard and Mela Steinman and Robert and Viorica Steinman; brother and sister-in-law; James and Gayle Barr; her sister, Barbara Honig; grandchildren; Bryan, Eleni, Rachel, Eric, and Sarah; and her step grandchildren Camelia and Coradu. A chapel service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 21st at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, FL 33437. Rabbi Michelle Goldsmith will officiate. Judith Steinman will be laid to rest following her funeral service next to her husband Harry, at Lakeside Memorial Park, Miami, FL. Contributions may be made in her loving memory to Hadassah and/or Temple Beth Am, 7205 Royal Palm Blvd, Margate, FL 33063.
May God comfort the family among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
