Lawrence "Larry" Gitlin's Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” Edward Gitlin (Eliezer Yitzhak Bar Benyamin HaLevi - Z”L) passed away peacefully on Friday Morning, July 21st, 2023 (3 Av 5783) at the age of 93 in Spring Hill, Tennessee. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut on August 27, 1929 to Dora Margolis Gitlin and Benjamin Gitlin (Jewish immigrants from the Russian Empire: Minsk and Babruysk, now Belarus). Larry’s father was a hardworking yet poor carpenter. His mother developed crippling Parkinson’s which required that Celia and Edythe, Larry’s sisters, raise him. At age 19, Larry met his beloved Rebecca Arovas and the two quickly fell in love and were happily married for nearly 72 years until her death in 2022. Larry is survived by his children, Marcia Sue & Roger Alan (wife Heather Silverblatt) who he adored, and his three grandchildren, Jason, Rachel and David and great-grandchildren by Rachel (husband David Welch): Moshe & Tikvah (along with another on the way).
In 1985, after retiring from an award-winning career as an insurance agent for Prudential Financial, Larry relocated with his family from Connecticut to Florida. Larry and Becky resided in Gleneagles, Delray Beach where the couple were beloved members and Larry served as President of the Gleneagles Homeowners’ Association. In 2019, due to age-related illness, the couple relocated to Tennessee to be near family.
Larry will always be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and an avid golfer. Larry loved life and never complained about anything. He was a man of many talents with a heart of gold, a platinum work-ethic and a will of steel. Larry will be laid to rest alongside Becky at the Eternal Light Memorial Gardens & Beth Israel Memorial Chapel in Boynton Beach, Florida.
