Leonard Flum's Obituary
We announce the passing of Leonard Flum, on October 11, 2016. Len was the loving husband of 61 years to Eileen, devoted father of Gary (Debra), Stu (Barbara), and Dave (Tracey), cherished brother of Rhoda Starkman and the late Solomon Flum, and adoring grandfather of Zachary, Ethan, Paige, Allie, Carly, Jayson, Jake, Michaela and Ava Flum.
Len earned his PhD in speech pathology and audiology and was an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College for 17 years. He was a pioneer in integrative care and myofunctional therapy, respected by peers and the thousands of patients he served.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 7, 1931, and proudly served in the US Army medical corp (1951-1953). Len lived in Merrick, NY from 1967-2006, and Boynton Beach, FL until his death.
A natural educator and seeker of knowledge, Len never missed the opportunity to teach what he learned, and he was always learning. He kept a dictionary nearby, read through stacks of newspapers and books, and was always ready to debate politics or discuss “big issues” whenever there was an opportunity.
Most of all he loved being with his kids and grandkids. He saw in his children the seeds of the future and tended his garden with love and care.
He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A celebration of Len’s life will be held at the Beth Israel Memorial Chapel in Boynton Beach on October 16th at 3pm. In his honor, please consider supporting one of Len’s favored charities, the Jewish War Veterans of the USA:
