Obituary
Leslie was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. He grew up surrounded by parents, Anna and David, brother Jeff, aunts, uncles and cousins. He spent summers in the Catskills where he worked as a waiter. Les always had a wonderful relationship with his younger brother, Jeff, and they especially enjoyed their summers in the Hamptons and Martha’s Vineyard as young adults.
Les graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in mechanical engineering and had a successful career in aerospace engineering. His daughter, Susan, will never forget the day Dad arrived for a football game at her school, the University of Michigan, decked head to toe in the scarlet and gray colors of Ohio State. Throughout his career Les made important contributions to our nation working on such projects as the B1 bomber and space satellites. He loved going to work conferences and his family often joined him.
Les loved to ski and met Leah Safenovitz at a ski house in Sugarbush, VT. In 1965 Leslie married Lee. Daughters Susan and Lauren soon followed. We all have great memories skiing as a family. He raised his children in Larchmont, NY. Les was dedicated to his family. Lauren remembers a night in middle
school when she was upset and struggling to write a paper. Dad told her to go to sleep and she woke with a well written paper left for her on the table.
In his retirement he and Lee moved to Indian Spring in Boynton Beach, FL and Emerald Green in Rock Hill, NY. They made many wonderful friends. After Lee passed, Les found happiness and companionship with Sherry Kweller. Together they enjoyed traveling, dining out, the theater and being together.
Les was a loving spouse, caring parent, and family provider. He always stood by his family in times of joy and need. Les gave his family the gift of so many wonderful memories including the trips and cruises we took as a family. His favorite role, though, was being “Pop” to grandsons Devin and Logan. He was devoted to his grandsons and gave them the gift of golf and a love of skiing and the stock market!
Les gave his family and friends so many wonderful memories. He will be greatly missed.
