Lillian is the sister of Jordan Gold of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by first cousins Sheryl Gold of Sharon, Mass; Norman Finkelstein and wife Rosiland Finkelstein of Framlingham, Mass; and Linda Finkelstein Galper and husband Jonas Galper of Brookline, Mass.
Lillian was born and raised in Chelsea, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Ida Finkelstein Gold and Ben Gold. Lil graduated from Chelsea High School in 1950. Lil attended Vesper George School of art and the Chandler school for women. Lillian was a passionate fan of fashion and design from early on; she was involved with Seventeen magazine while in high school. She worked for Luby Chevrolet of Boston. A favorite activity was traveling to hear her favorite Jazz vocalists, including Billie Holiday. Her love of music contributed to meeting her spouse, who was a professional musician.
Lil married Stanley Harvey Garlitz on December 10, 1955 after a courtship that started the prior summer while Stanley was playing gigs at Cape Cod. They were married at B’nai Moshe in Brighton. After honeymooning in Miami Beach, they decided to relocate to Miami where they lived for 33 years. Luby Chevy had a presence in Miami, allowing her to transfer and work while Stanley was an undergraduate and in grad school at the University of Miami.. They then started their own family, getting Jay and Ivy off to a good start before Lil founded her decorating company Ivy Interiors in the 1960s. She designed for private individuals and companies for many years in South Florida. Upon retirement they moved to Huntington Pointe in Delray Beach and enjoyed 28 years there. During her retirement years Lil kept her passion for making friends and was active in many groups and activities. She was a keen traveler and loved cruise ships, traveling on 100 cruises all over the world with Stanley. She will be remembered by many for her lavish cooking and entertaining and her love of life.
