Madeline Britman's Obituary
Madeline A. (Roizman) Britman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, honorary great-grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025 in Boca Raton, Florida. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Morrie and Eve Roizman, she was born in Brooklyn, NY. Madeline shared a unique bond with her fraternal twin sister, Judy, as they were both born on their father’s birthday. Raised in Malverne, NY, Madeline excelled academically and attended Douglass Women’s College at Rutgers University, where she majored in Chemistry. Her early career took her to the cardiac research lab at New York University Medical School.
Madeline’s love story with Norman Britman began like a classic Hollywood romance. They met at the Sands Beach Club, where he was a lifeguard, and she worked as a day camp counselor. After a serendipitous Fourth of July weekend when both were stood up by their respective dates, Norman asked her out with a charming proposal: “What are you doing this weekend? Want to get married?” Their love story spanned more than six decades, and they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this spring.
The couple built their life together in Clark, NJ, where Madeline devoted herself to her family and community. An active volunteer and public servant, she contributed her time and ideas to organizations such as NCJW and Temple Beth Or. She served on the Clark Board of Education for many years, advocating for the needs of the town’s children. At age 40, she pursued a master’s degree in Labor Relations, a testament to her lifelong dedication to personal growth and helping others.
Madeline worked for the Department of Labor, where she guided individuals experiencing challenging times, helping them find and keep meaningful employment. Later, she joined Rutgers University’s School of Management, where she advised small businesses on government contract opportunities, leaving a lasting impact on countless entrepreneurs.
A woman of many passions, Madeline loved cooking, travel, reading, great food, and lively conversations with good people. Her appreciation for the arts and culture was evident in her regular visits to NYC theaters and museums before retiring to Florida.
Madeline is survived by her devoted husband, Norman; her son, David (Jacqui) Britman; her daughter, Susan (Doug) Present; her cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, Adam, and Margot; and her twin sister, Judy Kravitz.
Madeline will be remembered for her intellect, warmth and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she created.
A celebration of Madeline’s life will be held on service on Monday, January 6th at 2:15pm at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, FL. 33437. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. https://jewishboca.org/give/ecard/
