Rhoda Brooks
Dearest Margaret,You were always so special in my life, from providing my second home when your daughter, Doreen, and I were little girls growing up in '3641', to being a great confidente as I grew older. Even though we were different generations, we somehow became friends. Oh, the things we shared about life! . Our conversations will always be with me.I remember decorating your Christmas tree each year, with all the tinsel so carefully placed under your guidance, followed by the magical Christmas mornings with the gifts you left for me from Santa. My own family had pillow cases instead of Christmas stockings on Christmas morning replete with oranges, as you had told us about.the British way of doing things. We all followed suit in so many ways- even my parents. Your influence was present in our lives. Still savor the taste of your mince pie, although I have to admit I was quite old before I knew of what it was comprised. You always were so much fun and represented a 'glamourous' life for me -giving me a different view of the world through your stories of England and Wales. You welcomed me into your family of nephews, nieces and of course, your sister and brothers and I will always be honored to be part of that family.I cherish the brief visit I had with you last year when we held hands and made meaningful eye contact. We were both able to acknowledge, through that tacit communication, memories of the lifetime we shared. You will be missed but will remain in my memory forever. I know you are dancing where you are now and making it a party for everyone there. With a special love,Rhoda
