DR. MARSHALL Y. COHEN's Obituary
COHEN, Dr. Marshall Y., age 84, of Boca Raton, formerly of Delray Beach and New York, passed away on March 18, 2018. Beloved husband of Arlene for 58 years, loving father to Craig Cohen and Cheryl Cohen-Kelly, father-in-law of Sophia Zahariou-Cohen and Jason Kelly and brother-in-law of Barbara Cohen and Geraldine Diamond. Marshall was born and raised in the suburbs of Boston, where he and Arlene met at age 16. After receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree, Marshall moved to New York while Arlene pursued her PhD in Psychology at NYU. Marshall practiced optometry in New York City for over 40 years, building a large and successful practice. While newly married, Arlene introduced Marshall to the game of tennis which promptly became his passion. Marshall loved the competitive and social aspects of the sport and he instilled a love of the game in his children, which became a family activity. Moving to Delray Beach allowed Marshall to truly immerse himself in his love of tennis-playing 6-7 days a week (and hitting golf balls in the afternoons for good measure). Marshall was the captain of the Gleneagles Country Club Tennis Team in Delray Beach for several years (and if you ask his family, he was the unofficial “mayor” of Gleneagles). Like his older sister, Frances Rabkin, and brother, Arnold Cohen, Marshall had a love of life and laughter; traits that he passed on to his children and that he engendered in anyone he came into contact with.
The family asks that if you would like to make a donation in Marshall’s name, please do so to your favorite charity.
