MARTIN LERNER's Obituary
Martin Lerner – “Marty” to his friends, and “Mickey” to his beloved family – passed away on July 19, 2017, at age 84, peacefully at his home in Manhasset, New York. Mickey will be dearly missed by his wife Lauretta, daughters Sharon and Stacey and their husbands Bob and Paul, and by his grandchildren Erica, Ross, Lara and Jason, and by his niece and nephews Karen, Bobby and Richie. Mickey was overjoyed to have seen photographs of his first great-grandchild, Mia Rose – named for his mother – but, sadly, did not get to meet her.
Mickey founded American Student List in the 1960’s and was thus a pioneer of the direct-marketing business. Having amassed and computerized data about students, it was natural for him to be called upon to help in searches for missing children. Thus began a long relationship with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, or NCMEC, on whose board he sat for decades.
Mickey was an aviation enthusiast who enjoyed flying from his teenage years up until very recently. He piloted his own airplane out of Republic Airport on Long Island for many years and shared his love of flying with his late brother Alfred Lerner.
Memorial services will be held at noon on Friday, July 21st at Gutterman’s Funeral Home in Woodbury, New York, and at 12:15 pm, on Sunday, July 23rd at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Delray Beach, Florida. Interment will follow on Sunday at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, in Boynton Beach, Florida.
