With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dr. Marvin Krause, DMD, DDS, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, esteemed oral surgeon, and periodontist. Dr. Krause passed away on January 28, 2025, in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, at 92. His life journey, marked by professional excellence and personal warmth, leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Dr. Krause’s illustrious 25-year career as an oral surgeon and periodontist was honored with many awards, including, a prestigious Fellowship from the Academy of International Dental Studies. His contributions to the field were recognized through his leadership as President of numerous professional groups. Dr. Krause also served as a Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. His expertise and commitment helped shape the future of dentistry, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and students alike. Long before the broad acceptance of alternative medicine, Dr. Krause gained fame for his revolutionary practice of performing dental surgery without anesthetics, as he successfully eliminated his patients' pain through hypnosis.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Krause was deeply committed to his community. He was a founding President of Temple Ohav Shalom in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, where he played a pivotal role in fostering a sense of faith and community and helped create a burgeoning Jewish community in the area. His leadership extended beyond his religious affiliations; he was a 32nd Degree Freemason and Shriner, demonstrating his dedication to philanthropy and public service.
Dr. Krause’s personal life was rich with love and passion. He was married to Dr. Helen Fox Krause. He later married Katy Morgan. His selfless love for Katy was profound, and he passed away shortly after her, a poignant reminder of a heart broken by loss. Dr. Krause was a devoted father, survived by his children: Colonel Merrick E. Krause, USAF, retired; Beth Krause Harper; Kim Krause Codd; and stepsons, Todd Boorstein; and Jay Boorstein. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Dr. Krause had a zest for life that extended beyond his professional and community commitments. He loved dogs, finding joy in their companionship. He was an avid collector of bulls, a unique hobby that reflected his diverse interests. His love for travel took him around the world, where he embraced different cultures and experiences, enriching his life and the lives of those around him.
In his last days, Dr. Krause was surrounded by the love and support of his family. Jay Boorstein and Todd Boorstein, both of South Florida, were devoted to his daily quality of life, regularly caring for his needs – including treating him with his favorite ice cream! The rest of the family is forever grateful for their loving kindness to this dear man. Kim Codd and Merrick Krause were able to fly in and see Dr. Krause before he passed, providing him comfort and love in his last days. He died peacefully at 11:40 PM, a couple of hours after Merrick made a final visit on behalf of the family.
Dr. Krause was interred in a private ceremony at Beth Israel in Del Ray Beach, FL, where his legacy will continue to be honored. His life was a testament to the power of dedication, love, and service. He touched countless lives through his professional work, community involvement, and personal relationships.
As we remember Dr. Marvin Krause, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by significant contributions to dentistry, unwavering service to the community, and a deep love for family and friends. His legacy will endure in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Dr. Krause. Your impact on this world will never be forgotten.
