Michael Halzel, 80 years old, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and Jewish educator passed in peace on May 22, 2021 following a 7 year courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Michael is survived by his wife Celie, his son Av Read Obituary
I am learning of Michael's death only today, and am deeply saddened. He was my boss at Heinish's many years ago, and taught me to read and write basic Hebrew from L'Shonee, a basic primer I still have. A student at Dal, I proposed Conversational Hebrew as an experimental course and recommended him to teach it, which he did. I remember him as a kind and gentle man, very proud of his family. I am sorry to hear of his long illness, and hope it is not too send my heartfelt condolences.

Michael was my COP major at Kings Point and we really had a great working relationship. He was the type of person that I could go to when there was an issue and he always had a sensible answer.
The last time I saw him, though, was at the Lynn Cancer Center about two years ago. I was there to see my oncologist and while I was waiting all of a sudden someone sat down next to me as if he was just expecting to see me and said "how are you?". I looked and it was Michael. We chatted for a few minutes and then I had to go inside. Never saw him again.
He was very special and even though we were not close friends I will miss even knowing that he is here.

I first met my friend Michael when he was the Captain of the Lexington Club COP Unit and I was a new Major assigned to be his supervisor. The business relationship grew into a friendship after we discovered that he had been taught by my cousin Max Furer. Michael was such a dedicated member of his community that I recommended that he be promoted to Major a position in which he served so effectively earning the admiration of each of his units. I will miss him as I know will others whose lives he had touched. May his memory be for a blessing and may he rest in peace. Vol. Colonel Steve Tamber, Retired.
