Mona E Hurwitz's Obituary
Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the age of 92, with her husband Al by her side.
Mona was born in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from Weaver High School, also in Hartford. She raised her family in Connecticut and moved to Delray Beach, Florida once her family was grown.
She was predeceased by her parents, Isadore and Clara Cushing. She was also predeceased by her son Lenny, whom she loved with all her heart.
Mona is survived by her loving husband Al, to whom she was married for 71 years. She is also survived by her beloved daughters and their spouses: Iris and Bob Ward of Denver, CO, Sharon and Marc Litvinoff of Seattle, WA, and Beth and Richard Luciano of Fairfield, CT. She also leaves behind six grandchildren whom she adored: Benjamin Ward, Lauren Ward-Gunn (Paul), Zachary Litvinoff (Tara), Joshua Litvinoff (Shamar), Isabella Luciano, and Richie Luciano. She also leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Linda Cushing as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mona was a loving and devoted wife, mother, bubbe, and friend. She will be remembered for that love, and for her kind and caring spirit. Throughout her life, Mona was active in the community and was especially proud of her volunteer work with her local synagogue, senior living facilities, and Pap Corps. One of her passions was her love of cooking and baking. Those closest to her often joked that 20 people could walk in off the street and Mona would have plenty of food for everyone. She was best known for her noodle kugel, rice pudding, sweet and sour meatballs, and the plethora of tasty baked goods like rugelach, whiskey cake, and chocolate sour cream cake, which she lovingly made for her daughters’ birthdays. Mona also loved playing Mahjong and was a whiz at card games (especially gin rummy).
The family sends their appreciation to TrustBridge Care Center at Boca Raton for their unparalleled care and support. They also want to thank Homewatch CareGivers of Boca Raton, specifically Tatiana Xavier and all of her dedicated aides, who provided loving care for Mona as if she were part of their own family.
