Morton Bernard Millinger's Obituary
Morton Bernard Millinger passed away at the age of 95 on June 15th 2025.
Mort was born on October 26th 1929 to Mildred and Harry Millinger in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he grew up alongside his beloved younger sister Lila. After graduating from Snyder High School, he attended Long Island University. Shortly after graduating, he married his high school sweetheart, Joan Barison. Mort proudly served as Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his return to the US he joined his father at Millinger Printing and took ownership of the company.
While his military and professional career was impressive, he aptly passed away on Father’s Day -- a day honoring the job he loved most. He was a cherished father to three children, Gary, Lynn and Susan; an adored grandfather to Alexa, Eric, Emily and Alison; and a beloved great grandfather to Eva and Max.
In retirement, he found some of his deepest fulfillment in fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling the world. For several decades, he remained a dedicated leader of the Jewish War Veterans (JWV), serving as New Jersey State Commander from 1997-1998 and on the National Executive Committee from 1998-2000. He worked tirelessly, even into his final days, to honor and preserve the memories of Jewish war veterans around the country. He supported their legacy by reviewing and awarding dozens of scholarships from the Leo A. Seigel - Dr. Philip Shapiro Education Grant. He also spent many hours giving back to the local veterans community by volunteering at Lyons VA Medical Center.
Mort will continue to live vividly in the memory of his family and in the many other lives he touched. His kindness, empathy, strength and courage will reverberate for generations to come.
A graveside service will be held at South Florida National Cemetery at 12:30pm on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. 6501 S. State Road 7 Lake Worth, FL 33449.
Donations may be made in honor of Mort’s memory to the Leo A. Seigel - Dr. Philip Shapiro Education Grant* or the American Heart Association, both causes he cared deeply about.
