Murray Markman's Obituary
Murray Markman, a man whose life was defined by a profound dedication to his family, an enduring work ethic, and resolute strength, passed away on March 20, 2026, at the age of 99. Born on January 17, 1927, in Bronx, New York, Murray’s near-century of life was a testament to resilience and deep, unwavering love.
The cornerstone of Murray’s life was his beloved wife of 72 years, Lenore, who passed away in 2024. From the moment they met in the summer of 1950, their partnership became the heartbeat of his world.
A proud World War II veteran and Syracuse University graduate, Murray built a highly successful career in the insurance industry, notably insuring the historic Woodstock festival. He maintained such a strong dedication to his profession that he continued working into his late nineties.
Beyond his career, Murray found joy in golf, horseback riding, and afternoons spent playing cards with close friends. He also found great spiritual and community fulfillment at Congregation Yagdil Torah, where he was deeply moved by the teachings of Rabbi Light.
Above all else, Murray's truest legacy was the boundless and fiercely devoted love he poured into his family. He was their steadfast anchor, effortlessly bridging generations with his comforting presence and deep wisdom. His voice was a constant reassurance, and his counsel a guiding light, ensuring that every member of his lineage knew that they were deeply tethered to his heart. To Murray, his family was his greatest pride and the true foundation of his remarkable life.
Murray was predeceased by his wife, Lenore; his parents, Max and Eva; and his siblings, Shirley and Ira. He is survived by his children: Dr. Barry and wife Judy Markman, Jody and husband Dr. David Funt. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Samuel, Eric, Brittany, Josh, Evan, and Makena; and eight beautiful great-grandchildren.
May his memory be a blessing.
