Myrna E Hornstein's Obituary
Those of you who knew Myrna know that when she walked into a room, she had a presence. There was something about her; she was simply unlike anyone else. From the way she walked, the way she presented herself, and of course, to her glamorous looks, Myrna was unique. Most did not see all of her talents. She could write an amazing poem in minutes and write the most astounding short story from start to finish. Myrna could certainly dance, and had such style from decorating her home to performing on stage; she just simply excelled in all. Myrna loved to perform in shows on stage, and she especially loved performing with so many of you; it brought her such joy. It all made so much sense after all, because she lived up to her maiden name after all, which was “STARR.” But perhaps Myrna’s most special talent was that she had the most beautiful voice, the voice of an angel. She could sing show tunes, Barbara Streisand, almost anything, but her love of opera was something that was so very special to her, and even in her final days, her beautiful voice stayed with her.
Myrna loved animals, and was a dog and cat mom which many people might not have known. She had an abundance of energy, and never did anything half-way. When she set her mind to a task, nothing would stop her. All who knew Myrna also knew of her love for antique dolls. She collected the most beautiful dolls, and took the finest care of their vintage clothing and used her skills in restoring them to their best condition.
Myrna’s family adored her. Her daughter Robin and son Steven: her son-in-law Robert and daughter-in-law Mary: her four grandchildren, Jillian, Alison, Matt and Kimberly; and her five great grandchildren Olivia, Jack, Sydney, Jaxon and Wyatt were all so very special to her. Myrna’s wonderful sister-in-law Judy as well as her nieces Sharon and Julie always were so special and called so often to be sure she was alright. She missed her brother-in- law and nephew, the late Marvin and Richard Hornstein so very much
Myrna met the first love of her life on a summer day on the Coney Island boardwalk. Jack was 21 and had recently returned from his tour with the Marines; Myrna was 18, and it was love at first sight. They were married for fifty years. Together they had two children, and shared much joy throughout their lives. To have one love in your life is a blessing, but to have two is a miracle. Myrna found the second love of her life at Coral Lakes. He is with us today, a man that you, a man that you all know, Gerry Jaffe. Myrna was with Gerry for 21 years. He was her “sweetheart” and she always said he was such a mensch, and how much she loved him. When Myrna fell ill, Gerry was there. When she needed assistance, Gerry was there. He visited her 3X a day, every day, for years. He is one-of-a-kind and Myrna’s family does not have the words of gratitude that we have for him. She knew love for 71 years. What a wonderful blessing.
Myrna was loved and will be missed. She will remain in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Rest in Peace dear Myrna.
