I remember sitting cross legged in front of our black and white TV set on the floor of our Bronx apartment in the early 1970s. I must have been 9 or 10. My heart was racing with excitement that my big sister was going to be in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on national TV. I sat there for hours glued to the TV set waiting for a glimpse of my sister. They didn't tell her until that day what float she would be on, nor what costume she would be wearing. Finally, her float rolls by and there she is a perfect, beautiful flower. Her smiling face poking out of the pedals of her daisy costume, waving and smiling and totally owning the floral character. I thought to myself, what a perfect costume for her. She was always a ray of sunshine. She brought such joy to the world. She was the perfect flower.
To this day, I still remember the look of pure joy on her face. Her huge smile, her proud waves to the crowd on 34th Street, and to the world watching on TV. She was small in stature, but always larger than life to me. Love you, Nanc.
