Rebeca Yore's Obituary
Nearly two months to the day after her 88th birthday, Rebeca Yore succumbed to the COVID-19 virus, while in the thoughts and hearts of so many who love her. It’s not the end her storied life deserved. Rebeca lived on three continents, spoke five languages (she wouldn’t let you forget it!) and created a beloved family that was her world.
Rebeca was born March 28, 1932 in Warsaw, Poland. Like so many Jewish families there, Rebeca’s moved, immigrating to Montevideo, Uruguay in 1936. In 1950, she moved again, to New York City, using her language skills to work with the South American offices for The Jewish Agency for Israel (then Palestine). During that time, Rebeca met Israeli prime ministers Golda Meir and David Ben-Gurion. In a move that illustrates her truly selfless nature, Rebeca volunteered to watch the office while her co-workers met Albert Einstein. (Her family loved to remind her of that!)
Rebeca met the love of her life, Julio, in New York in 1955 at the 92nd Street Y’s Spanish-speaking Jewish singles night. He loved her wholly and completely his entire life; 55 years of wedded bliss.
Rebeca and Julio moved to Miami Beach, Florida in 1966, where her son, Lawrence, and daughter, Barbara, grew up. Rebeca was so proud of her family – she was always happy to tell friends her son is a doctor and her daughter is a lawyer. She loved her six grandchildren and bragged about them every chance she got.
Rebeca was down-to-earth, gentle and giving. She never complained or spoke ill of a soul. Even when diagnosed with this awful disease, she insisted she was fine to doctors and to her family. That’s who she was; A fighter who never burdened others with her battles. She was grateful for everything and wanted for nothing.
Rebeca’s children remember how much she loved dancing with their father. Hopefully, they’re together again, dancing and happy.
Donations in Rebeca’s honor can be made to The American Cancer Society and Feeding Tampa Bay.
