Richard H. Epstein's Obituary
Richard H. Epstein, 92, was born on April 24,1924 in New York City, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 20. He is predeceased by his parents Ezra and Helen Epstein and brother Stan.
He attended Madison High School in NYC and then enlisted in the navy during WWII serving on the U.S.S. War Ship ”WASP” that took an enemy hit while he was onboard in the Pacific. Following his service he attended college at Iowa State on veteran benefits before returning to NYC to learn the textile industry in New York City’s garment district. Later he founded his own firm to manufacture textiles and later import fabrics from Italy for 50 years until he retired and moved to Florida in 2002 with his wife Gloria Boras Kaye Epstein of 32 years he met on her 45 birthday.
Richard had a strong sense of, pride in, and unwavering loyalty to family, beginning as a devoted son, brother, nephew and cousin, and later as a husband to Gloria, stepdad to Arthur and Jon Kaye (Bonnie) and grandpa to Mike Kaye (Ariel) and Matt Kaye. He loved being part of every family milestone, from brises Bar Mitzvahs and confirmations to college graduations, weddings and holiday celebrations.
An avid NY Giants fan, Richard loved watching and talking ‘the game’ while in the stands with season tickets or on the screen wherever he was. He was fun, feisty, active, and did it “his way”, living life well until his health began to decline just after Thanksgiving. We are all grateful we had several weeks with him before his passing, including celebrating his and Gloria’s 32nd anniversary, Jon and Bonnie’s 30th anniversary and Hanukkah, latkes and all.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 10:15 am at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 5808 West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach 33484. Shiva, following internment at Eternal Light Cemetery in Delray Beach, will be at the Clubhouse at the Les Jardins community (beginning at approximately 12:15 to 8 pm), entrance on Saint Andrews Blvd., South of Yamato Road on the eastside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Richard’s memory can be made to the Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center (www.levisjcc.org) or Hospice by the Sea Foundation (https://www.hpbcf.org) both in Boca Raton.
