Richard Sherman's Obituary
Richard Harris Sherman, 86, of Boynton Beach, Florida and New Jersey, passed away on July 19, 2024 after battling Parkinson’s for several years.
Richard (Dick) was born in 1938, the son of George and Florence (Willinski) Sherman. He resided in Passaic for over 30 years and graduated from Farleigh Dickinson with a Business degree. He wed Ellen (Gursky) Sherman in 1968 and enjoyed 50 beautiful years of marriage until Ellen’s passing in 2018.
Dick had a number of Sales roles across many industries. His life’s work, though, was raising his family with Ellen; first in Bardonia, New York and then in Sunrise, Florida. Dick was involved in his sons’ education and coaching their teams, never missing a “Parent” event for their boys. His personal passion was playing tennis- a sport he didn’t pick up until his late thirties, but one that he played avidly.
Upon Ellen’s teaching retirement in 2003, they moved to their beloved Boynton Beach community of Cascade Lakes where Dick was the person on everyone’s call list for a fill-in on the tennis court.-He seemingly played all the time. Dick and Ellen enjoyed traveling and taking care of their five precious grandkids. His family was lucky to have a loving human being in their lives for 86 years, and he will be greatly missed . Dick had an infectious and easy-going personality and both family and friends loved to spend their time with him.
Those who will miss Dick the most include his sons- Michael Sherman and his wife Courtney, and Steven Sherman and his wife Vicki, grandchildren- William, Matthew, Timothy, Brian, and Kaitlyn. He leaves numerous cousins, niece/nephews, in-laws, and other family and friends with cherished memories.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Ellen and his parents Florence and George.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Friday, July 26, at 1:00 pm at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road in Boynton Beach, with interment following the memorial at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens in Boynton Beach.
