Robert Alan Behren's Obituary
Robert Alan Behren, 88, of Wellington, Florida, passed away on October 10, 2018. Born on December 29, 1929, in New York, NY, he is survived by his sister, Eleanor Glat and his devoted wife of 47 years, Judith Behren. He was a retired Major in the U.S. Air Force. He served as a jet fighter pilot and has flown many different military aircraft during his 20 years of active duty and reserve service. His academic degrees include B.B.A, in accounting (C.U.N.Y. with honors: recipient of highest score in the country on National Accounting Achievement exam); M.B.A (C.U.N.Y.); J.D. (N.Y.U., first in class,), LL.M (N.Y.U.), and completion of all coursework for J.S.D. (Doctor of Juridical Science). He was the recipient of numerous scholarships, fellowships, and awards. He was the President of the oldest non-profit musician support charity in America, Musicians Emergency Fund (MEF), which is dedicated to providing financial support to promising but needy musical talent, many of whom have become major stars. Bob Behren was an attorney (listed in Martindale-Hubbell, as having earned the highest ratings it confers), and a Certified Public Accountant (listed in CPA Magazine’s 100 Most Influential CPAs in the U.S.). He was (1) Professor of Law (full-time, tenured) at City University of New York for 15 years, (2) the creator and editor of Practical Accountant Magazine, Computers in Accounting and Clients Monthly Alert, the county’s first branded financial Newsletter, (3) the creator of one of the first (pre-Google) branded templated Website programs, and (4) developer of and instructor at many CPE programs for attorneys and financial advisors. He was a founder and published many leading magazines and Newsletters and received a Presidential commendation from Ronald Reagan for publishing and communications. Some of his legal articles have been cited, as authority, by the Justices of the highest courts in the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals. He was a President of a professional publishing division of Thomson Corporation, a multi-billion dollar conglomerate and the world’s leading publisher of professional books and journals. He was a riding instructor, ski instructor and director of a ski school, sailing instructor and director of a sailing school, holding a U.S. Coast Guard licensed “Ship Captain Master’s License”, and a FAA-certified flight instructor.
Chapel services will be held at 1:45pm on Friday, October 19th, 2018 at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach, FL. Entombment services to follow at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, Boynton Beach, FL. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to Musicians Emergency Fund or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or Trustbridge Hospice Foundation .
