Martin Stein
Martin Stein (continued)
We played tennis three times a week for 14 years. Each member of our group had a moniker pinned on them: “Grandpa”, Pinocchio” the “Rabbit”, the “Professor”, “the Maestro”. Robert was known as “Bobalou”. When a game ended with a winning point Robert would say.: “That’s the point.” “That’s the point,” After tennis we would go to our café for the breakfast special. We would discuss politics, economics, food and while we shared some opinions we often disagreed. But amazingly, we never grew cross with each other or took umbrage. We both read the Wall Street Journal from cover to cover each day and I found it remarkable that we could arrive at such different viewpoints. I would say to Robert: “Robert you are sadly misguided.” He would reply: “You have to do your research.” “You have to do your research.”
To Ronnie and your family, I just want you to know how much Susan and I will miss our “Bobalou.” We will remember his favorite sayings: When do we eat. When do we eat. Outstanding. What are the odds? That’s the point. That’s the point. Do your research. Rest in peace my good buddy, my pal, my friend. You will be terribly missed.
