Robert Okonski's Obituary
Robert Okonski passed away on August 15, 2019 in West Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 81. He was born in Berlin, Germany, on September 26, 1937. A survivor of the Holocaust, Robert lived in France and Switzerland before moving to the United States.Robert attended Brooklyn Technical High School, Queens College of New York, and Fordham University where he earned his MBA. He served in the U.S. Army for two years prior to beginning a long career in the information technology industry. He was part of Bell Labs ground-breaking efforts in telecommunications and data processing, and continued this work at Mountain Bell, AT&T and US West as an executive manager. Later in his career, Robert applied his expertise in the airline and real estate industries. He loved traveling the world and exploring new destinations with his wife and held a particular love of Italy.
Robert leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Roberta Okonski, whom he met in Denver while serving in the U.S. Army. After raising their family in Colorado, Robert and Roberta retired to Southern Florida. He leaves behind his daughter Evonne Peters (Mark) of Marblehead, Massachusetts and his son Gene Okonski (Temrah) of Ellicott City, Maryland, as well as his four grandchildren Michelle Peters, Daniel Peters, Mindra Okonski and Jerel Okonski.
Memorial services will be held 3pm on Sunday August 18, 2019 at the Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, Florida 33437.
