ROSEMOND RUBIN HAMMOND's Obituary
Rosemond Hammond—artist and optimist, 94 years young—passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2021. She was born and lived in Miami all her life until moving in 1995 to Wellington, Florida, to remain close to her youngest grandchildren. In her younger years, Rosie studied at Goucher College in Baltimore and at the University of Rochester before pursuing her post-graduate studies at the University of Miami.
As an artist, her works have been held in many private collections and have been featured at the Bacardi Art Gallery, Lowe Art Gallery, the Society of the Four Arts, Fort Lauderdale Museum of the Arts, The Plaza Art Gallery at the New York Plaza Hotel, Pageant Gallery of the Arts and The Ehrenkranz and Hammond Art Gallery. In her later years, Rosie led a series of art history courses at the Wellington JCC in the hopes of inspiring others through her own experience.
She also had a lifelong passion for exercise, which included tennis, distance swimming, jogging and yoga—and she was held in high regard as the matriarch of her local gym in recent years. Rosie loved travel, music, gardening, playing bridge and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was curious, adventurous, brilliant, and loving.
Rosie was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Daniel Hammond, and by her brothers Sy and Charlie Robins. She is survived by her daughters Helen Goldstein and Sara Marcus, sons-in-law Rabbi Brett Goldstein and Mitchell Marcus, grandchildren Andrew, Rachel, and Debra along with their partners Jackie, Bryan, and Olivia, and great-grandson Leon. She will also be remembered by extended family and friends in Miami and across the country.
Funeral services will be held privately. Donations in her memory can be made to Planned Parenthood of South, East, and North Florida, in honor of the lifelong commitment she and Daniel shared to protect and promote women’s health.
