Sam Cukier's Obituary
Sam Cukier, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on November 29, 2017 at the age of 90. Born in Lodz, Poland and a survivor of the Lodz Ghetto and Auschwitz, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Cukier, his daughters Jody Cukier, Laura Rosenthal (husband Paul), Jill Cukier Pappalardo, and grandchildren Jessica Newton (wife Michelle), Zachery Rosenthal, and Sylvan Pappalardo. Sam and Carolyn raised their family on Long Island, NY, where he built a successful custom kitchen business, and moved to Boynton Beach full-time in 2012. Sam’s devotion to his family and friends was exceeded only by his efforts to preserve and share his recollections as a Holocaust Survivor. His recorded testimony was one of the first to be catalogued by Steven Spielberg’s Survivors of the Shoah project in 1994. He regularly spoke at schools, churches and civic events, such as the Interfaith Committee of Remembrance in New York and, most recently, at the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce Women in Business luncheon this past April.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 3 at 11 am at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel followed by burial at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, in Boynton Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the USC Shoah Foundation or the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
