Sandy was born 1935, in Connecticut to Philip and Ruth Bernstein. Her family moved to New York at a young age. Always a lover of learning, reading and the arts, she attended Music and Art Magnet High School in New York City. After graduating, Sandy was eager to enroll in college and adventurously traveled on her own to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she proudly attended the University of Michigan for undergrad and graduate school, obtaining her first of 2 Masters degrees. Always a proud alum, GO BLUE!
While at Michigan, Sandy met her first husband, Byron Sparber settling in Miami,FL a couple years after graduating. They had three children, Terri Sparber Bukacheski, Ronald Sparber, and Michael Sparber. Sandy was predeceased by her son, Ronald, who was diagnosed with Familial Dysautonomia.

Sandy and Harold shared a love for tennis, maintained a very active social life with many friends and spent their summers for decades in her favorite place, Aspen, Colorado, where they enjoyed the annual music festival, Aspen Institute lectures, playing tennis, hiking and socializing with their Colorado friends.
Sandy was loved by her family and surrounded by a large group of friends whom she adored, spending much of her time gathering in Boca West playing bridge, attending book club and many charitable organization events. Sandy, and her family, were so thankful for the supportive community she built in Boca West.
Throughout her life, Sandy proudly identified as a "strong women's liber," was passionate about education, enthusiastically discussed current events, and, up until the day she passed away, continued to demonstrate her curiosity to learn by constantly reading books and newspapers.
