I never met Saul, though I wish I had. His son Henry and I are friends; I consider him family, really. Henry and I met in Minneapolis and sang together at open mic nights in South East Minneapolis. He was the first person to coin me “SheaButtah”. His love, kindness and support of me and my dreams and endeavors were so instant and deep that I could only surmise that his father Sauls deep and abiding love and support for his son has created a man so wonderful and pure in love that I am so grateful for his spirt and teachings to his son Henry as I get to benefit from them. Saul was never one for doing anything athletic……..except for two things.
1) Having Joan get up and get him another piece of brisket.
2) Doing deep knee bends getting on and off of the toilet.
Unfortunately, neither of these ever became an Olympic event
We always had a good laugh together; cousin Saul and I; especially when talking about the G team and other family members; the Bunkers’ had nothing on our family! After every phone conversation, we always told each other that “I love you”!
Saul is an irreplaceable being in all that he and his family have accomplished. All of them are caring, highly intelligent and funny as hell!
