Sharon Falkowitz's Obituary
Age 82, of Tampa, FL, passed away on November 10, 2020. Private funeral services will be held adhering to COVID restrictions in Boynton Beach, FL.
A native of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Mrs. Falkowitz was the beloved spouse for 60 years (this past July) of her devoted husband, Daniel. Sharon is survived by her children: Lisa Goodman (Douglas) of Burke, VA; Kenneth Falkowitz (Denise) of Knoxville, TN; and Steven Falkowitz (Tracy) of Tampa, FL. She leaves behind six adored grandchildren and is also survived by her sister, Helene (Murray) Brill of Boca Raton, FL, and her brother, Joel (Sally) Freed of Alexandria, VA.
Mrs. Falkowitz graduated from Kingston High School in 1956 and in 1960 received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and History from Penn State. In Pennsylvania, Sharon became a life member and served on synagogue and community center boards. She was also a life member of Hadassah, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the Penn State Alumni Association.
At Penn State, Sharon modeled for a State College apparel store, tutored Joe Paterno’s football players, typed term papers for fellow students and ran slideshows for instructors. Afterwards, she tutored Russian immigrants in English language studies in the Wyoming Valley, worked as a reporter and on the Editorial staff of the Times Leader newspaper, and then as Editor-in-Chief of Mass Appeal, an entertainment and recreation newspaper circulated throughout Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. Subsequently, she dedicated her editorial expertise to both the Wilkes-Barre Jewish Community Center’s Digest publication and eventually in Florida to local Hadassah chapter’s monthly newsletter.
Sharon and Dan retired in 1997 to Boynton Beach, FL, and recently moved to Tampa. In Florida, she enjoyed golf, her weekly bridge games, and her cats.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, November 20th at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, FL 33437 with Rabbi Anthony Fratello officiating. Contributions may be made in loving memory of Sharon Falkowitz to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Foundation or to the Alzheimer's Association.
