Shirley Lillian Gutowitz's Obituary
Shirley Lillian Gutowitz passed peacefully on November 2nd, 2024 at age 93. Her husband Arthur, who she was married to for 65 years, passed nine years earlier on the same date, November 2nd, 2015.
Born and raised in Bronx, New York, Shirley graduated from James Monroe High School. She married in 1950 and moved to New Jersey with her young family in 1954. She lived in Fair Haven for 11 years. She was a skilled and passionate seamstress, as well as one of the first Avon ladies in the area. After moving from Fair Haven with her family, Shirley lived in River Edge, New Jersey for 34 years. There, she set up her cottage industry business called Shirley’s Knitterie, which she held in her home. She retired to Villa Borghese in Delray Beach, Florida where she resided for 20 years. She was a Chapter Treasurer for Hadassah, loved painting ceramics, and lived a very social and enriching life there
In 2019, Shirley moved to Thousand Oaks, California to an assisted living community called The Reserve. As was the case everywhere she went, Shirley was an active and beloved member of the community at The Reserve, teaching craft classes, playing cards, and of course, her favorite pastime Mah-Jongg!
Shirley was a lifelong practicing Jewish woman, a fierce and loving matriarch, and had a wicked sense of humor. She will buried with her husband In Boynton Beach, FL and will be dearly missed by her family; her son Michael and daughter-in-law Susie; her daughter Felice and her husband Phillip; her five grandchildren, Max and his wife Harriet, Sam, Danielle, Jillian, and Madison, and her three great-grandchildren, Charlie, Daisy, and Oakley. Rest in peace dearest mom, grandma, and GG.
