Simma Sulzer's Obituary
Simma Sulzer, 79 of Delray Beach, FL passed away on Thursday June 9, 2016 following a brief illness.
Born in New London, CT she was the daughter of the late Charles and Rachel (Woltz) Spilken.
Simma resided in New York for many years before moving to Atlantis, FL with her husband Paul in 1979.
Simma was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn and later received a Master’s Degree in English from Queens College. She taught English at Schreiber High School in Port Washington, NY for many years prior to moving to FL.
Simma was very active serving her community in FL. She served as Human Rights Council Secretary, was a Delegate for the Democratic Party in Palm Beach County, a volunteer at Planned Parenthood, was a longtime Clerk of the Courts Volunteer Coordinator and was an active member of the National Council of Jewish Women.
Simma had a great love of travel and adventure and enjoyed seeing different parts of the world with family and friends. Her favorite destination was the U.K., where she took courses at Oxford and indulged her favorite pastime of attending theatrical productions.
She is survived by her loving children: daughter Laurie Sulzer of Boynton Beach, FL, son Ira, his wife Mary and grandsons Paul, Jake and Zach of Maynard, MA, her beloved siblings, sister Feige Brody, brother Dr. Terry Spilken and his wife Barbara, all of NJ, as well as many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was the widow of the late Paul Sulzer with whom she shared 29 years of marriage, and was the sister of the late Michael Spilken.
Family and friends will gather to remember and honor Simma’s life on Tuesday June 14 at the Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, FL. Services at 12:15, interment at 1:30. In lieu of flowers, donations in Simma’s memory may be made to:
