Stanley Lawrence Becker's Obituary
Stanley L. Becker
Stan was born in 1932 in Syracuse, NY, where he went to school, built a business,
married, and raised his children. He was a graduate of Central High School, and though
education was always important to Stan, he had to do a few things before he was able to
return to his love of learning.
Stan served in the Korean War and was discharged from the military as a Master
Sergeant. He married Helen Rosenberg in 1957, and had three children, Steven, David
and Jeannie. He also took over the tailoring shop his father bought in the 1950’s and,
over 30 years, grew it into the highly successful Genesee Cleaners that his son, Steven,
owns today.
While you could usually find Stan at the front counter of Genesee Cleaners, he managed
to find time to devote to his eclectic interests. He proudly succeeded in earning his
Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Syracuse University at the age of 56, after 13
years of classes. He was also an avid stamp collector and was eventually made an
honorary member of the Syracuse Stamp Club.
Stan is survived by his loving wife, Helen, his devoted children Steven (spouse Amy),
David, and Jeannie (spouse Todd), his 6 wonderful grandchildren: Rachel, Nathaniel,
Matthew, Maggie, Gabriel, and Melanie, as well as his beloved sister Gloria and her
husband, Charlie Hoffman.
Stan was a passionate supporter of Disabled War Veterans. The family would very much
appreciate donations to this cause:
