Stanley Safran's Obituary
Stanley Safran died peacefully on Dec. 16, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones. Stan is survived by his
wife of 40 years, Shelley; brother Frank (Andrea); daughters Wendy (Jeffrey) and Carol (Peter) Safran;
sons Larry and Gregg (Erin) Rappaport; grandchildren Jason (Leslie), Sally, Arielle, Ma’ayan (Scott),
Keren, Joshua, Harlan, Jordan, Jessica, Julia, and Alex; and great-grandson August. Stan was predeceased
by his son David.
Stan was born in 1929 in New York City to parents Joseph and Dorothy. After serving in the Army, Stan
earned his Bachelors in Business Administration degree from City College and went on to become a
Certified Public Accountant, eventually establishing a private practice that included clients who
remained with him for decades.
Stan’s first marriage produced three children: Wendy, David, and Carol. His second marriage to Shelley
expanded his family to include sons Larry and Gregg. Over time, the family continued to grow as Stan’s
children married, adding grandchildren and even a great-grandchild. Stan and Shelley’s home was a
nexus of family activity and Stan relished the constant flow of loved ones in and out of the house.
Stan and Shelley developed a wide circle of lifelong friends, meeting them in Victor’s Sunlight Bungalow
Colony; the Engineers Club in Roslyn Harbor, NY; The Greens in Melville, NY, and many other stops along
the way. Stan’s clients invariably also became close friends of the couple. The lives Stan touched
throughout his 90 years are too numerous to name.
Stan and Shelley remained very much in love throughout their long marriage, and created many
wonderful memories together. They especially cherished opportunities to celebrate simchas and could
always be found on the dance floor. Stan was especially touched by the 90th birthday celebration
Shelley threw for him. Although he was no longer able to trip the light fantastic, he thoroughly enjoyed
the music and others twirling around him.
Stan will be missed by all who knew him. May his memory be for a blessing
