Dr Stephen Shiner's Obituary
Dr. Stephen Shiner passed away on October 16, 2022, in his home, still holding his wife’s hand. Born in NYC in 1946, to parents, Dr. Irving Shiner and Mrs. Shirley Shiner, Stephen came into this world the way he left it: surrounded by love. Stephen lived a remarkable life. At a young age, Stephen voluntarily enlisted in the Army where he became war hero, receiving countless metals and accolades. However, if you were to ask him, his greatest accomplishment during his years of service was convincing his wife, Debbie, to marry him. Back from Vietnam, Stephen was visiting a friend in Toledo, Ohio when he first saw her; he immediately knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Debbie saw Stephen’s white shoes, white belt, and matching white corvette and felt the same. Three days later, they were married. After the service, Stephen continued to make his impact on the world, living in several different states and exploring different careers. Stephen has done everything from working at a pet store, being an editor for the Sun Sentinel, starting an ambulance company, attending mortuary school, to ultimately attending medical school and becoming a successful anesthesiologist — all with Debbie by his side. Stephen and Debbie’s marriage extended beyond 53 years of bliss. Together, they ultimately had three children, his legacy, which he leaves behind: David, Michael, and Lara. Stephen also leaves behind two daughters-in-law, Laura and Jennifer, two grandsons, Lucas and Benjamin, and one granddaughter, Kaitlyn. To all of those he leaves behind, Stephen remains their personal hero. The sun is a bit dimmer, because a piece of its light has gone out; but the stars, they shine brighter for Stephen to watch over us. In lieu of flowers, on behalf of Stephen, we would request contributions to go towards charities supporting animals and/ or our military veterans, such as: Paws and Stripes or Wounded Warrior Project
