Sumner "Sonny" Rodney's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sumner J. Rodney, who was affectionately known as Sonny to all who knew and loved him. Sonny passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at the age of 85.
Sonny's life was a testament to love and hard work. Born and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, he was a proud New Englander. After marrying his first love, Harriet, they moved to Randolph, Massachusetts, where he built a successful commercial janitorial company. They shared 39 wonderful years of marriage until Harriet’s passing in 2006.
After selling his company, Sonny and his family relocated to Boca Raton, Florida, where he continued to work in real estate and at Macy’s department store. After the passing of Harriet, he was fortunate to find love a second time when he met and married Rosalind Paul. Together, they shared 19 joyful years filled with adventure and travel. They explored the world by land, air, and, most notably, by sea, as cruising became their great passion.
Sonny is survived by his devoted wife, Roz Paul; his three children, Melissa Loomis, Glenn Rodney, and Marc Rodney; stepdaughter Colette Paul, his 11 grandchildren; and his two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind the loving memory of his late wife, Harriet Rodney.
Sonny will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his passion for travel and cruising, crossword puzzles, blackjack, backgammon tournaments, and weekly poker games with friends, dairy queen ice cream, and pizza. He leaves behind a legacy of a life well-lived and a family that will forever cherish his memory.
Memorial services will be held at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel on Sunday, August 10th at 11 AM. 5808 West Atlantic Avenue Delray Beach, Florida Shiva to follow interment on Sunday. Shiva continues Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the home of Roz Paul. The funeral service will be broadcasted via the web. Click on the highlighted link for access, Sumner Rodney.
