THELMA SCHLESINGER's Obituary
Thelma T. Schlesinger passed away on July 21, 2019, in Delray Beach Florida. She had achieved the age of 92.
Thelma was born on December 19, 1926, in Bronx, New York, and was the only child of Jack and Sophie Miller. She was affectionately known as “Tedi”. After her high school graduation, she attended art school. She was trained and employed as a Dental Hygienist for a brief period.
On March 9, 1947, Thelma married her sweetheart, Leonard I. Schlesinger, and remained married for 60 years prior to Leonard’s passing in 2007. While raising her children, she and Leonard lived in various locations on Long Island, New York, settling in Smithtown, New York where she maintained an elegant home for 30 years. Thelma made a successful return to the working world as the manager of Life Uniforms in Smithtown, prior to her retirement and relocation to Boynton Beach, Florida in 1991.
In addition to her homemaking skills, Thelma was a talented artist, who was skilled in ceramic work, and still pursued her art work well into her later years. She enjoyed music, traveling and visiting art museums. Thelma was a patient, loving wife, a caring Mother, Grandmother and recently became a Great Grandmother.
Thelma is pre-deceased by her husband Leonard I. Schlesinger, daughter Harlyn R. Stern; son William A. Schlesinger; daughter-in-law Heidi Schlesinger, and grandson William G. Schlesinger.
She is survived by her son Barry Schlesinger and daughter-in-law Virginia of Lake Grove N.Y.; and her son David Schlesinger; his son Daniel Schlesinger and step-son Jonathon Hamilton of Lauderhill, Florida; her new Great Granddaughter Sophie; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stanley and Helene Schlesinger of Haverford, Pennsylvania and her cousin Paula and husband Roger Zitrin, of Boynton Beach, Florida.
Thelma will always be remembered as a graceful and courageous spirit who had a generous and loving heart.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 12:15 pm at -Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 5808 West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida, 33484
-Followed by Internment at 1:30 pm, at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, 11520 State Road 7, Boynton Beach, Florida, 33473. At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to The American Cancer Society.
